Bush's crusade for Christ
Not surprisingly, the Southern Baptist Convention has given its favorite member a ringing endorsement of our present aggression. Former presidential advisor and apocalyptic guru Hal Lindsey is thrilled to see Bush taking steps to secure Lindsey's place in history as a prophet. As for what to do with post-war Iraq, the president has that base covered in part by an extension of his faith-based initiative, relying on such programs as Samaritan Purse, which is run by Franklin Graham, son of Bush's mentor and source of his evangelical beliefs, Reverend Billy. Conversion, after all, is a good way to rid the world of those pesky muslims. Onward christian soldiers...
It's a Christian's duty to pray for military success, as well as a soldier's.
But the end time references of some of these clarion calls to support the war is what really scares me. Rather than find a bunch of links on my own, let me direct you to the MeFi disucssion.
The popularity of those Left Behind books really troubles me. We may be the only species that totally destroys its own existence on the gamble that it will hasten a rapture and give the "good folks" everlasting life. And we mock lemmings?

Animals can be faithful to God for sniffing out mines and such, but do they go to heaven when they get killed? Muslim dogs probably get to hang out with a bunch of virgin bitches in the afterlife. I always learned the standard Christian doctrine was that animals don't go to heaven. But don't tell the dogs, they may switch sides.

This is all absolutely silly, silly bullshit. What is happening in America?? We claim to be fighting a war against terrorism: Terrorism which is spawned by fundamental, radical religious groups (i.e. Arab Muslims). Yet, we practice the same ideologies by having "Pledge-A-Prayers" and invoking God's name in the same breath as "justified war." This is insanity!

I think these self-righteous capitalists are going to regret their hastening of the rapture, but after all the good Jews and Christians go to heaven, I can taunt the rest with, "I told you so."
You know the world has truly changed when the top
rapper is white, the
top golfer is black, the tallest basketball player is
Chinese, and the
Germans don't want war, but the Southern Baptist Convention does.

From jimoto's "Animals in Heaven" link above: Who the hell are the nutjobs that hijacked the biblestudy.org domain? That is the looniest possible answer to that question I can imagine.

You know, when it comes right down to it, crusade is the operative word in this post's title.

Q. Does dogshit go to heaven? And for that matter is dogshit a living organism since it is full of living bacteria? Is there a difference between dogshit and human shit? If shit does go to heaven, do you think God would give preferential treatment to human shit over dogshit? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I think we should separate mainstream Christianity from the bible thumping evangelicals. Despite the pro-war sentiment running amongst a majority of their parishoners, The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Council of Churches have begged the President for a peaceful resolution. However, the President refused to meet with either group, and has continued to "follow his gut" on the crisis in Iraq. It's truly confounding to me that Bush refuses to even listen to those who disagree with his position. He probably made up his mind on what to do with Iraq once he started fantasizing about becoming the leader of the free world and has not deviated from that path since. I wonder what's next? Watch out Syria!

You are correct, jimoto. The Southern Baptist Convention seems to be the exception and not the rule. My link to MetaFilter basically expalins that in detail. Let's be fair here.

"This ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ is equipping our military men and women to fight a battle that is not only with flesh and blood. Let us pray for our soldiers and this ministry as they battle to win souls for Christ."
Imagine if Pat Robertson were President. Would the situation be much different?

These so called Christians are nothing but a bunch of mealy mouthed hypocrites. I would reserve a first class seat in hell just to watch these these slimy maggots BURN.
