Spring is in the air
The days are getting longer, the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues are underway, and Warren Buffett offers his letter to shareholders as part of Berkshire Hathaway's 2003 annual report.
This post hit the spot on all counts. Saturday was the first truly spring-like day in New Orleans, and it made me realize the one thing I am going to miss most about Cincinnati: baseball's historic Red Stockings.
Also, just last night I watched a re-run of PBS Frontline's Tax Me if You Can, a nicely done investigative report about the abuses of tax shelters. I thought of our previous Buffett discussion when I saw the huge decrease in the percentage of total U.S. revenue paid by the taxes of corporations, as opposed to individuals. Amazingly, Buffett quotes the exact same figures in his letter (under the heading "Taxes") that the PBS show used. And in is own downhome niceguy style, he thoroughly and successfully calls Pamela Olsen to the carpet for her comment about his "playing the tax code like a fiddle." One would expect that the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy--who I assume is educated in accounting--would be able to analyze the numbers a bit better than she did. Remind me to never get called out by the Oracle of Omaha in his letter to shareholders.

I was looking at that link about "How to compute the length of a day" and computed that it would take me an entire day to understand how to compute a day. I think that's the trick to it, or I'm just a dumbass.
