The videogame that made the movie famous

Although I am sure that I played many, many hours of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial on my old Atari 2600 (actually, in the interest of truth in memoirs, it was the Sears Video Arcade Rev. A), I never realized what a total flop the game was. Apparently, the game was a major cause of the Video Game Crash of 1983. Atari was apparently stuck with so many unsold tapes that they buried millions of them in a desert landfill. Perhaps more interesting than all of that, I learned about this via an informative music video (warning: informative music video) that traces the game's star-crossed history.

The only way it could have been worse, I suppose, is if a little racism and misogyny had been thrown in, a la Custer's Revenge.

Obscene Cabbage Patch Doll

It was bound to happen sometime - those Cabbage Patch Dolls are the devil's playthings! Is it wrong that I find this story so amusing? If you think so, I am begging you to check out the slideshow and tell me if you don't agree.
