clear

Soon, it will all be at our fingertips!

And you can see the beginnings of it here

The waybackmachine even had old Memphilter pages. I'm still checking this all out, but it seems like it will be an awsome resource. If I had only had the internet in college, all those damn trips to the library!

Merry Christmas

I love Christmas lights!

But I am glad I do not live next to this guy

Turn your speakers up and rock on! Peace!

Mood: Oxymornonic

I'm not into Livejournal, but I find the Livejournal Moodgrapher strangely fascinating. Especially on days like today, where the "What's Hot" mood is Cold and the "What's Not" mood is Hot.

Thinking Inside the Box

You might think that one's becoming a regular reader of a weblog dedicated to Wal-Mart's big box urbanism would be an indictment of just how pathetic one's life had become. While I prefer the illusion that my life is not pathetic, I must admit to becoming a regular reader of theboxtank. I just want to be clear about this: I am not a fan of Wal-Mart. For me, my quasi-hatred for Wal-Mart has nothing to do with the way it treats it workers, the way it cleans the clocks of mom-and-pops, or the way it drives business straight to the lowest wage economies. To be sure, these are problems to be investigated by those whose social consciences trump my suburban indifference. But I hate them for what a bunch of people presumably love about them: the--in my view--lousy shopping experience: dirty, cart-infested parking lots; tight aisles; poor service; crappy display; and the fact that they practically frisk paying customers on their way out (and have legitimized the practice for much of big box retail). Having said that, theboxtank shows me how Wal-Mart sells prOn in China. Apparently, Chinese porn is safer than many American rap lyrics. But the real genius of theboxtank happens at theboxtanklab, where mostly Wal-Mart-related infoporn rules the roost. I mean, any site that can make me imagine the population of Omaha condensed into a square mile deserves a little memphilter shoutout.

Make your linky a My Linky

As you may have noticed, I spend a pretty good deal of time on the web. It would stand to reason that I would use the heck out of bookmarks. Alas, I don't. Or I should say I only use toolbar bookmarks, and just a few of them, like so:

The problem is that bookmarks become unruly and difficult to search, and they cannot easily be had when you are working from different computers. This need to "access anywhere" is why I use blo.gs to keep up with my favorite blog feeds. Tonight in this MetaTalk thread I came across MyLinky, a service that allows you to create links and categorize them by clicking a toolbar button (note the "Linky This!" button above in the toolbar image) and access them via a url on the web, preferably stashed on a button in your toolbar, as well. Intuitively, to me at least, this seems like a bookmarking system that I can actually use, stowing away links for later consumption or, perhaps, posting to a blog. If you, too, do not seem to get the most out of bookmarks, give MyLinky a try. After all, it's free.

Thanks, and come again!

Sideboard renovations

Just a note to let you know that I have upgraded the Memphilter sideboard, although that might not be obvious from the main page. Readers can now click on the sideboard graphic above the links and be whisked to a new and improved sideboard main page, complete with comments, author information, and archives for those quick links you might have missed. In the past, posting to the sideboard was nothing short of a pain in the ass. I have made it moderately easier to post your low threshold links there, so if anyone wants to participate over there, let me know.
